Jay Davis

Birmingham Jazz

We welcome Jay and his live tour of his new recording Bad Trad. Everything within this album centres around relationships to people, personality, and places. This record has been gestating for a long time and the pieces within span across a decade. It’s only with the benefit of hindsight to identify the common threads that link all this music together. The compositions collated here are presentations of Jay’s musings on identity, the human spirit and relationships with other beings both human and animal, and where we choose to be in the world; our sense of home and belonging. He feels so fortunate to have as band mates three incredible improvising musicians in Mike, James, and Huw. Their intrepid creativity provides the perfect alchemy in combination with the written notes that I have given them, and their playing adds so much more depth to the music whilst also constantly surprising. Music is one of the great unifiers bringing us together, regardless of nationality, race, sexuality or gender and that is something that always should be celebrated
